Overwhelmed: A Letter to Our Brides

Weddings are full of emotions: joy, anticipation, excitement, but also stress, and overwhelming pressure. For many brides, the closer the big day gets, the heavier everything can start to feel.

Weddings are full of emotions: joy, anticipation, excitement, but also stress, and overwhelming pressure.

For many brides, the closer the big day gets, the heavier everything can start to feel.

This week’s “Love Note” comes from Alison, co-owner of Satin & Lace Bridal Boutique, who wrote a heartfelt letter to one of her brides during a moment of high stress. That letter quickly became something more; something every bride deserves to hear.

If you’re in the middle of planning and starting to feel like the joy is slipping away, take a breath. This is for you.

A Letter to My Brides

Written by Alison, March 23, 2025

“Today, as I write this letter, it is March 23rd, 2025. For as long as I remember, it has and always will be my parents’ wedding anniversary.

In a few short months, on what would have been my dad’s birthday, Peter and I will celebrate our 38th wedding anniversary.

In the last few weeks, I have seen lots of my brides as they come with their future husbands to collect their suits. They are exhausted and overstressed, and there have been lots of arguments.

They have been planning this perfect day for months or even years, and they tell me they will be glad when it’s over.

So, what’s the problem?

In a nutshell, it’s that one word: ‘Perfect.’

They are putting so much pressure on themselves to plan and execute the perfect day that they have lost sight of what it’s all about.

It’s about them and their future spouse. It’s about celebrating with family and friends. It’s about laughing, having fun, and making memories.

Some wedding days will be perfect, but some won’t, and that’s okay.

To my brides I say:

The only person that has that perfect picture in their head is YOU.

Nobody else can see that perfect vision, so let it go in favor of having fun, laughter, and making new memories.

This day is the first day of your new life together, and there will be many days that won’t be perfect. You have to learn to laugh together, cry together, and most of all support one another, as my parents did until death did they part, and as Peter and I continue to do.

It wasn’t always perfect. No marriage ever is. But they celebrated over 50 years of marriage.

This is a reminder to choose to be happy and let everything else go. This photo is my favorite reminder of our wedding day, August 1st, 1987.

Why? Because it shows exactly what I want for you. A relaxed and happy couple, after the ceremony and ready for a fun reception, enjoying time with all the friends and family that showed up to celebrate with us.

So, to all my beautiful brides: whatever happens on your wedding day, smile, laugh, and let it go. You will have wonderful memories of your wedding day to last you forever.

A Final Thought
